gamers! we're back. i don't know, it's kind of a weird start to the slay this buy or two ever so run defect now defect number nine you can see the seed in case you wanted to join us. well, this is interesting i don't think i've ever seen neos talisman upgrade a strike and a defend three damage and three block yeah, i think it's gonna be silver crucible for me playa let's see what we got going on here. okay, i
-
0:29
actually, i have been, um, mogging slay the spire on my phone on my bike rides in the morning. coolest sentence ever uttered, obviously. um, so i've made it around to the defect, uh, for ascension 20 and now i'm getting my freaking head kicked in, man. it's been a little rough. but it does mean i'm in a defect mindset for sure. it's kind of interesting, right? what do i like the, uh,
-
1:02
i like lightning rod conceptually. it's economically, for one energy you get seven block, two lightning, which is awesome. the only problem is it takes a little while to come out, but maybe it could be useful in like a defensive, like a stalling deck, you know? i'm not 100% sold on fusion, but you know what? i mean, upgraded especially, i'm willing to give it a chance. and then
-
1:35
another lightning rod to just get this cycling around? it could be the play, man. could be the freaking play. and then we've got a very block heavy deck which actually might be an interesting way to play this. 55 gold to put retain on a card. i mean it's a very cheap enchantment. the only question is what you would want to retain. i mean i guess anything. like a dual cast until the right orb was at the front is an interesting... it's an interesting idea.
-
2:13
lightning rod? little defend. if we can avoid taking damage, i would love to avoid taking some damage. with a plasma orb reliably out there, huge. do you think we could start to think about taking something a little bit more expensive? i don't know, like a streamline or something like that. i literally have to kill you.
-
2:41
then if i evoke and then do that you die. okay, so the math got a little a little crazy there, dude i'll do it literally for the meme. i'll do it. okay, so i do think it's kind of crazy to have three lightning rod pluses i don't necessarily mean crazy in the way that people usually mean it which is as a synonym for good i suppose but we're gonna give it a shot regardless man. let me see what we got here empty, of course. oh
-
3:08
i do feel like as a defect you want an upgraded dual cast and an upgraded zap as early as possible. those are basically energy upgrades. and then you know what? give me a fresno lens. i don't see a situation in which i would take the other one unless it was like really late in the game. it's just non stop relics, bro.
-
3:28
lightning rod? you know what? i mean, we just got fresno lens. i think i'd be a fool not to give it a... this is... i'm not just taking it as a joke. like, i actually think these... the more of these cards you have, like the merrier maybe? the more we get together, the happier we'll be type stuff. and then basically now i chain these lightning rods and they are going to summon more lightning every single turn.
-
3:56
or no, they'd extend it. oh, this changes everything. we want to retain this, obviously. i thought they would lead to summoning multiple lightning rods per turn. so this is actually like, i mean catastrophic is kind of a stretch, but it's not great. i mean it is still kind of, kind of infinite block is probably a step too far, but it is still a lot of block. it's a whole lot of block.
-
4:36
we didn't take that much damage against an enemy that's usually pretty annoying. i'm gonna say this was like a decent proof of concept. but i would also certainly say we have absolutely no need for any more of them. and dude, i don't know. i mean, are we gonna kill this enemy fast enough to not die to the, i don't even know what you would call it, the dead man switch? i have no idea, but we're gonna try.
-
5:14
we're gonna be putting out a lot of lightning, obviously. that's a given for a beast like me. a lot of lightning is gonna get out there. it's actually just by itself a pretty good block too. we have six turns of lightning coming out, even if we don't do anything else. that's kind of crazy. let's dual cast this, man. that way we have four energy to just waste. smart play instead of doing the only thing that does damage. really interesting priorities to play the game with.
-
5:44
get low enough that there's like no conceivable way in which you could ever not die to the steam eruption that happens at the very end. yeah, man, i'd say this is going really well so far. so i think we're gonna die. certainly i believe that we are going to pass away here. i don't know if there is a world mathematically in which i can avoid dying given what you've got going on here.
-
6:21
it, uh, well i should have probably hit you i suppose but that's even if we even kill you, which we, we will. i can't, i can't not take 47 damage though. there's no way man. i do have 23 turns of generating lightning. i mean, excuse me, i maintain if we got more lightning instead of longer turns of lightning, we win that one. literally is a fundamental misunderstanding and for that i blame the game.
-
6:55
not me, i blame the game. give me a rare card. i really like voltaic as a killer. i really like modded. it's very easy to play. you just draw it and play it and you only have to think about it once you get like 90% of the way through the fight. and then you're like, is this really worth 2 energy? and it still might be. it literally still might be. kind of a horrible setup here, don't get me wrong.
-
7:30
great thing about the defect is that obviously you can't choose who the orbs target. at least, i don't know if maybe there's like something like lock on in this, in slay the spire 2, but i think, um, i guess literally we just got the card that allows us to do the thing that i said you can't do. so never mind that then. let's try to fight an elite. we may regret this, but i'm willing to give it a chance, man.
-
8:09
shrinker beetle shouldn't be that rough for a beast like us. yeah, no problem. fish oil. the more orbs slots we have, the more that the focus strike is gonna help us. we do have to worry about order a little bit, obviously. maybe playing a little bit too quick. i've been accused of it before, for sure. you're done, bro. wait, this is like, that's exactly what we wanna see. more orbs equals you take frost. and now we've got a little damage, we got a little,
-
8:41
we got a little at everything and my god, we make a glacier slither. sure it could cost three, one in four times, but then half the time it's gonna cost the same or more, but half the time it's gonna cost one or less. that's pretty good. give me a strength and a dex. i'm not gonna dual cast my only lightning orb right now. i think it's the wrong play. i might be wrong, but i think it's the wrong play. buddy, we spend three on a glacier. it stings cuz it's an overpay, but
-
9:19
we need it. if you have to, don't be afraid to go all in with the flex potion, of course, man. but we're not really like... we're not really flex potion coded, to be honest with you. realizing it would be nice to have some more lightning out here. there are... maybe we are flex potion coded and we kill you. okay, that was fine. reptile trinkets kind of interesting. loop!
-
9:56
loop i'm not 100% sold on for one energy. on longer fights it will add up though. or if we can generate like more focus and most of our block is gonna come from frost orbs anyway. dang, this is a nasty fight man. not drawing our orb generating cards on turn one is making our deck look worse than it should in my opinion. now of course we can't always generate that we will
-
10:28
but we can't always guarantee that we will draw them early. but we, in like half of the situations, we should be drawing them pretty early right now. we will cast, i think you just focus up. we take one damage as a result of this. focus strike literally gives you the damage from the attack, four extra lightning damage and four extra block. like that's a valuable card, man. huge. nuke him.
-
11:00
i'm actually... stop me before i do this please, because it might be a disaster. i'm actually believing that we can fight another elite before resting. the only thing that's giving me pause is that there's like a 99% chance the elite is aoe, which we have no cards to deal with.
-
11:20
which we have one card to deal with. okay, wait, wait, wait. this is a classic smith situation in case you get a tiny mailbox from the treasure chest. it happens all the time, bro. happens all the time. literally happens all the time. it happened to me yesterday. he did not play a tax gain block. i'm gonna rest. i'm not gonna be a fool, man. this run feels like it's got some legs. oh, i'll cop, man. it wasn't aoe. i think it's this. i do think
-
11:58
in the future, we'd rather have hailstorm out there because we're definitely gonna play a glacier every time it shows up. especially when it shows up for freaking zero, bro. really good. and you take the damage from hailstorm. you probably took it already and i missed it. another glacier. absolutely would, but first you gotta focus up. 21, you're blocking 12. that literally gives us enough. and then you take the six from the... oh, dude, we're gonna pop it, man!
-
12:38
we're poppin'! petrified toad. i like petrified toad. it just feels good, man. sure, give me a hotfix. the focus is working. and the longer the fight goes on, the happier we'll be with it. i'm feeling alright. oh my god, we didn't play any attacks so we got extra block out of that. i'm a genius, bro. never attack. don't attack. we get extra block. that means we take zero damage. maybe we should never attack ever again. i literally just played an attack, by the way. but yes?
-
13:17
yes. yes. oh my god, we have 16 block. like by default. too bad it doesn't give 6 per frost orb. i mean, it might, some sources are saying it might be a little op. i think another one is in order, bro. absolutely. and then... 9 hp or 15? look, who we going up against? oh, not the... not the dude you have to hit 17 times, please. okay, well, we throw one of these at one of you.
-
14:01
and then pray? what'd you expect? you know, lobster? we take 8 damage. we're gonna rest before the boss so that doesn't strike me as like a huge problem. still no glacier. truly tragic. we have plate attacks so we're about to eat dirt on this one, taking another 12 damage. glacier exists for 3. literally still worth playing. maybe we should have slow played this one more. that's 6 damage. you're on... 8 team, but you're taking 12.
-
14:39
this should kill you. this will kill you easily. cool headed gives us one earlier chance to get frost. you like finesse. cool headed kind of similar though actually now that i think about it. and we get the extra damage once we get our powers out there. okay, so this guy's a menace but we can actually match up well against him as we can put a bunch of block out there. so i don't know if this will go through this but at least it'll help us work on it, right? loop, glacier, focus strike.
-
15:23
literally dual cast just to get slippery out of there faster. and then we got a frost orb up at the front so we block more damage. huge. okay, modded. hotfix. this is probably like we're getting into playing zero attacks so that we have as much block as possible. we need our permafrost to get out there. the bro is getting a little stronger. not permafrost, hailstorm. you know what i meant. heslecoil. literally don't play it because it costs us four block even though it would take one of your slipperies away.
-
15:58
we gotta think carefully about staying alive as well. we're literally landing some damage downfield now. this could be big. certainly you glacier. i mean, you literally basically do nothing. but we also take zero damage. one more. one more. you're doing 18. we have 10 block out there. evoking an orb will help us more. we take zero damage. it's growing. it's growing. it's doing 32 damage.
-
16:38
zap to evoke an orb 8 we're on 34. i mean, we're gonna get a little extra here. we were taking three damage that's nothing bro. now. we got a few wounds in the deck. sure. that's something it's gonna be tight we do have the potion to which i would be thrilled to use of course this is big because the extra focus is awesome it would have been nice to get that modded out there, but that's okay. we're literally gonna do it. we're gonna do it. i
-
17:09
all we need is like an attack. we don't even need an attack. we may not even need to use the potion. we definitely don't need to use the potion because we're doing 12. oh my god, we crushed him! okay, two block for each unique orb is like completely useless, man. we're gonna have... that's gonna give us four block a turn and we have to work for it. but it is a power as well. 11 damage to all enemies, evoke all your orbs. literally our powers already do that. am i insane to add nothing here?
-
17:49
or would we rather have an adaptive strike? you know what, i'm gonna add the coolant just because it is extra defense even if it doesn't compare that well with some of our other stuff. tezcatara's ember strikes and defends just strikes, okay. easy way to lose all strikes in your deck. i've literally never taken this before in my entire history with this game. so this should be interesting. i didn't say bad, by the way, i didn't say bad.
-
18:35
draw. horrific. not that bad, not that bad. we take a little bit of damage, life goes on man. give me some of that. give me the glacier. the whole point of these is like probably not playing them in most situations so that way they actually get exhausted. i mean if you're in a situation like that you kind of got to send it. i really think we actually might match up insNLy well against elites too. add a dark orb maybe two extra block per turn but you know what
-
19:18
i'm not sold. i'm not sold on it. not 100% sold on it anyway. in doing this, we take one damage. one damage is no biggie. did i choose the wrong path by the way? yeah, we will not be getting to a shop. we're gonna have to put our money where our mouth is on this elite fight. we will be... let's... i don't know. we use this to bust through shield later. i know it seems crazy bro. i'm literally... i'm committing to...
-
19:54
i got nutritious soup confused with test guitars, ember. we should be playing strikes in all situations. now i know you're gonna say, nl, you're an idiot for not noticing this earlier. can we just acknowledge that it could easily have been a situation as well in which i just never acknowledged it and never played them for zero and it would have been a disaster for me? at least now, well, it's really bad because there's a lot of situations where we don't want to play attacks at all.
-
20:22
like this one for example, so we can get a little bit of extra block and take no damage. and now i can't remove the strikes from my deck. so it's actually like that obviously clearly the wrong decision. we should have gone with the golden path but what's done is done man. what's done is done. i don't know why i thought that was gonna get us there. it did get, oh because of the permafrost bro. so what's, i don't know what the game plan is to be honest with you.
-
21:00
more orb slots definitely seems like that fits our bill of just putting up infinite block essentially. i'm not gonna go any deeper knowing we have to fight this elite. i do have to say it would be swag to like at any point get frost on our first turn. glacier's still good man, you gotta run it. and would we rather have the extra block or would we rather hit 18 damage in strikes?
-
21:36
let's see, we have 25 damage coming out. we're blocking 10, we could block 14. let's get a kill out there as soon as possible. huge, another hailstorm, pretty huge. you need to take 8 damage. i, for some reason, i thought that would do it. okay, we're actually chilling against this guy. 12 damage passive per turn is kind of nutty.
-
22:21
definitely draw first man. he's probably dead if you just draw first, but uh, just don't get uh, one tab by these toxics i would say and then you're you're probably chilling it has it's really changed the way i'm looking at the run though now that i realize these strikes are eternal you already know the vibe so don't get bent out of shape when i say you already know the vibe what's the vibe the vibe is we're not getting frost on turn one. so don't cry about it. it's it's the sweet science
-
22:53
you're doing 25 damage. i will obviously not be playing an attack and taking more damage than is necessary because we have an elite fight coming up. three cost glacier is what it is, bro. it is what it is. we take one damage, which is not bad at all. probably a beautiful turn to throw a potion shaped rock at you, but we could also throw it at you on a turn in which you have thorns, which is this turn. hailstorm is necessary, but we also need to put up more block.
-
23:33
the less damage we take, the better it'll be on the next fight. no fight in this game takes place in a vacuum, bro. earlier you learn that, the better it's gonna be for you. what do we get? 16 damage! we didn't even get the 19 block! okay, we go all in this turn. and you might as well throw the rock. unless two rocks would be better than having a flex potion on the next turn. which it literally might be. but what's done is done. i gotta sneeze, man.
-
24:17
i gotta think about like what's doing the damage for me. it seems like i'm destined to pass away here. especially because i don't have many basic attacks to hit you with just to farm energy. yeah, you kind of you match up very well against me. i mean, i need to not take damage so i'm not going to strike you for extra energy. i need to put up as much block as possible man. we're definitely already dead. we're not getting to 30 block let's be realistic. i think if i may
-
24:58
obviously, you probably don't need me to say this part, everything went wrong when i made those strikes eternal thinking that it was actually going to make them ethereal. which is a good lesson in actually reading the text that's on the screen. early genetic algorithm can kind of go crazy, man. i mean, any card that gets a boost, the more you play it and then getting it as your starting rare is like unbelievably overpowered.
-
25:30
by the way, don't be the fool that says why didn't you play dual cast early? you missed out on the damage. missed out on what damage? the damage is still right here. that orb is still there, bro. i came preloaded on that one, but i feel like you don't know what you're missing out on. let's get some damage. let's get a ball lightning out there. cut the injury from the deck. don't even look at anything else. don't let the shop seduce you. hit a question mark because we want to dodge the other shop.
-
26:01
give me clumsy and a relic. the relic is bag of prep. it's the greatest trade of all time. unbelievably good trade. now this time, this time we take a chance on it, man. i would happily take one damage to get this going early. now the one thing i will say...
-
26:22
do you need to upgrade genetic algorithm at all? and if you do, do you need to upgrade it early? obviously the earlier you upgrade, the better it gets. but that's not the question. the question is, is it the best upgrade you could get at that time? and the answer is i don't know. because at some point you reach a point where, and it's going to take a while to get there, but you reach a point where it's giving you overkill in block. and there's worse problems to have without a doubt, but
-
26:58
not if you could have donated those resources elsewhere. i do... a cool headed i obviously like, but having literally any damage aoe seems fairly sensible as well. actually enormous play. you gotta get cut. let's drink the potion, man. we're gonna at least get two turns out of the potion. which is... i mean, even if it's only nine health at the end of the day, i'm kind of okay with that. 18 damage. we take a chance on this one.
-
27:39
it kills bro. one of these for sure. now i can kill you, i should kill you. even though we don't get that three heal. three damage for each energy spent this turn. i like the idea of shadow shield though. does it channel more dark? no, it gives you 15 block and a dark though. basically this can kill a boss. if we can just put up enough frost, this can easily kill a boss for us. don't draw it right now, thank you.
-
28:17
because all you gotta do is let that orb sit for a minute, man. and we got orb slots, so it can definitely hang. we're gonna have to rest, that's for sure. because, i mean, not to be the most annoying guy on the planet, but the blocking, the 15 block channel of darkness card is not as good if you never get to draw it until the very end of the turn, or the very end of the battle, i should say, so...
-
28:48
i said not to be annoying, so you literally can't get mad at me. but the cards are a lot stronger the earlier you draw them most of the time. i think it's essentially suicide to fight this elite. this guy, i'll put it in terms you can understand for this guy. the bigger you are, the harder you fall. boom, take one of those. you're doing nothing, which is music to my ears. one duel cast away from getting a kill.
-
29:23
by the way, he actually could do quite a number on us here, but... we drew two really good blocks, which is awesome. and then end his life. okay, fantastic. none of these still... i don't feel that interested in taking a loop. i'm not a huge loop user in slay the spire 1 either. i feel like you tend to take it when you're like, okay, my deck's already jamming. might as well play genetic out. no.
-
29:56
i mean you might as well play it. we have enough block. i was just thinking it's maybe more important to get the damage out there but it's very important to have the darkness orb up at the front. attacks cost additional energy this turn. devastating. doing 12 damage. i'd really like to not have to rest for the boss fight but it's a very very spicy play. boot sequence could be pretty good too.
-
30:36
or maybe you pivot, fight an elite and then feel better about the rest. one of the worst first turn draws that you could possibly have in this situation. they have to be trolling. there's literally no... this is even worse, bro! and then we draw all of our defense, all at the same time. gambler's brew. okay, having a gambler's brew is huge. let's dodge. and this is... this is the deer.
-
31:16
i actually feel like the deer is the least spooky of all the act 1 bosses. at least with what we got going on right now. can i have some block? well, you know what? better safe than sorry, man. there's 22 block and a little ball lightning that pushes the darkness orb up to the front. i think that was a great use of the potion, honestly. even if we are gonna rest,
-
31:46
how much you're taking nine damage? well, we're obviously gonna rest because they were... this guy's putting us on three health this turn. where's my darkness shield, man? i guess it hadn't come back around yet. we don't wanna push... i need some more block. we don't wanna push our darkness orb out until we're ready. so that's why i'm not taking lightning strike or whatever the heck the card is that gives you a little bit of block. but summons a lightning for the next two turns. okay, you're...
-
32:20
that kind is all of a piece, man, but you most of all. you gotta dual cast that lightning orb out there as soon as possible. w genetic algorithm right here. you probably need to dual cast a dark orb to get it to stun. it's okay. i mean, the longer this dark orb sits here, the better. it would just be nice to get another one out there first before we freaking die. because i'm pretty sure this is going to leave us... well, i'm not going to strike you on that. that's fine.
-
33:01
i mean if we could dual cast it for 72, i mean it raises the question would you rather just send this around one more time? because we can get 21 block. 21 block means you're dead bro. 21 block means you're dead. okay, okay. does 21 block mean we're dead? 22 block, 22 plus 5 yes it means you're dead. so we have to finish you off this turn. can i, the real question for me is can i finish you off with ball lightning for 8
-
33:37
which takes you to 188, and then a strike which takes you to 181, and then nine damage takes you to 172. i can't. so we have to dual cast. then the third, the tertiary question is, is it better to dual cast strike ball lightning, just do as much damage as fast as possible, or start building another dark orb? and i think the answer is we gotta rush you down. because we get like one turn of not having to worry about you,
-
34:11
we're probably not gonna kill you the next turn, but a dark orb was not gonna change that. you can only play one card this turn. they're trolling. honestly, bro, they're trolling on this one. well, we tried. tetsukatoru is ember! i never want to see nutritious soup ever again! for now, thanks for watching. i hope you've enjoyed the episode. we'll be back probably to try this silent again. try to keep them all at... get them all to a10 first. for now, thanks for watching. i'll see you next time. later!
