we're gaming y'all. great news for the nl haters. i played a lot of slay the spire on the bike and slay the spire 2 not on the bike this weekend and got destroyed. got absolutely shellacked the whole time, man. ascension 20 and ascension 10, no joke. ascension 10 kind of a joke in slay the spire 1, not to make anyone feel bad, but let's see. we're the necrobinder. we're starting with 150 gold.
-
0:31
we're starting with two relics and a curse occurs is like minus a hundred gold give me the 150 gold that gives us a little bit more flexibility at the first shop now i don't i don't really know what to do with the necro binder on high level ascension and we're just gonna figure it out for ourselves. i feel like i kind of always default to trying to build a big oste you're doing 15 damage
-
1:01
i am going to accept taking a small amount of damage to get one of the slugs closer to death. as much as it pains me, i should say. i'll hit you again. please tell me you take the next turn off as well. yes, okay, so these guys, and i probably should have realized this before if this is indeed how it works, whatever attack they were going to do or whatever action they were going to do is also what they will do after they take their stunning turn off. that's good to know.
-
1:32
i really feel like once you take shroud, you're kind of doing a doom build. it's not necessarily bad, but drain power gives us a little bit more flexibility for sure. also 10 damage attack, kind of thing that's sort of like in demand in the early game too. i've just accepted we're going to get our tukus beat here a little early on because i just don't, i mean, i have the blocks that i have, you know? like i don't really have the capability of
-
2:03
putting up more block. i just kind of started with whatever block i got and then that's when i get it, i play it. two drain powers is interesting. i don't think it's too much. but also it's worth noting i don't really know what i'm talking about. two retained. do we need two retain at all? like i don't... retain is obviously good and it seems cheap. a hundred for two retain is crazy. it's just like what would you even use it on? you don't really want to retain a defend or a strike.
-
2:42
because they're low value cards to begin with. although obviously one with it is better than without it. this is basically like kind of a defend that attacks. these you're gonna play as soon as you get them, you know, but that might not be the case forever. let's enchant both of these with retain because i'm just now realizing, oh, that's right. i'm gonna add new cards to my deck. yeah, that makes perfect sense. our build right now is we do a lot of damage.
-
3:14
relative to our starting deck at least so let's add a vulnerability that will upgrade into two i do like haunt if we could build into it we don't really have anything that makes it work right now, and we do want to live right now let's also just take one card for two energy might need some draw to really make it sing, but i think we got some okay stuff going on here now at least
-
3:43
realizing it probably would be nice to add some defense to the deck because i keep complaining about not having any defense in the deck and then i don't add any defense to the deck and then i take damage. melancholy, work if you could get oste to take damage but, or you can get oste to die but it's not gonna work like out of the box. we need to get a lot more cards for it to really start to pop. this is gonna suck by the way. 15 damage, let's just start working on one.
-
4:19
17. so i still have to find a way to do like 24 damage to you if possible. i don't think we're going to die, but i do think i'm gonna feel like i'm gonna die. any chance i could get drain power? oh my god, we got it. wait, maybe this isn't so bad. because we're about to reshuffle anyway. and off the reshuffle, we're gonna start to pick up all these cards that we've already upgraded so far.
-
4:53
all none of them apparently. play bodyguard early, we do 12 damage. stings a little bit. wait, are we... we're not dead. we're not dead. are we just gonna use a potion to try to get something out of this? we do get five cards off of it. we can actually play two which is kind of crazy. not only are we not dead, we actually kind of made the most of it there, man.
-
5:22
now this turn, obviously you have to pay the price. you do 11 damage, we can raise that. wait, this is not bad. you're cooked. you're cooked. we take one damage. we are gonna have to rest at a campfire. i guess like the fight's not over to be fair, but... we are gonna have to rest at a campfire, but this is still pretty all right, man. all we need to get now is a relic that single handedly wins the game for us.
-
5:53
controversially, i'd say oddly smooth stone is probably not that relic. but you know what? all things considered, i think that could have gone a lot worse. and i like grave warden as a card. it's easy to understand. this guy, i can't remember if you get stronger. i'm still, obviously you do based on this right here. but we don't mind slow playing you just a little bit to get that plating under control. definitely want some block. not taking damage is nice. we hit you borrowed time.
-
6:27
you know what i'll say about this deck politely right now? very easy deck to pilot, which can actually be important sometimes. that was pretty good. full suite of potions. whenever you play a card that costs two or more, return this from your handy or discard pile. one thing i hadn't thought of is how this works with borrowed time. because we could play two cards that cost two, which would bring this back for like eight extra damage.
-
6:57
it's intriguing enough that i'm gonna give it a chance. the venerable tea set. alright, man. alright. always a little annoying. whenever you play an attack at a random attack into your hand... i've literally never played this. um, the fact that i got it for zero is basically the entire reason i'm taking it here. so, i mean, it seems like a great turn to have, uh, to have drain power. or to have production, i should say. we don't need to do any more damage. let's...
-
7:34
let's put up a bunch of block and i don't think it's worth using production just to upgrade some cards in the discard pile that doesn't that doesn't seem to be sensible to me. i will throw a weakness potion at you then this will give us another attack blight strike applies some doom could be persuaded
-
8:01
squeeze, not really the right fit for this fight, but that's okay. we're gonna do one more attack, so let's do that and then we'll put up a little bit of block. because we want to see what it, if we get a zero cost attack, obviously we'd rather play that. we don't really care to make you vulnerable, to be honest. this might just be like a drain power, then bodyguard in the borrowed time, do some damage, brings back right hand hand.
-
8:30
which does cost one now that i think about it, which is not awesome. rather, we'd still rather right hand hand and then i was going to play a defend but obviously we can't play a defend so i guess i'll just... do we have a zero cost card we could draw? no. then let's just hit you there. most importantly, i should just try not to die. i'm realizing. block, very helpful when the goal is trying not to die.
-
9:00
we take zero damage, that's pretty solid. let's retain a strike just so we can hopefully get you killed next turn. 16 damage. obviously we're not gonna, wait, no we could, cuz 15 damage takes you to the point where okay, okay, but we need to be able to block. so we wanna smack you, smack you. you're literally at the doom threshold. we get there, we have to rest again. i'd really like to upgrade. first time you play a card that debuffs an enemy, double its effect.
-
9:36
is interesting. so at present the run has zero theming. it's not always the end of the world to be honest with you. good stuff can sometimes do good stuff. let's, we have five energy. let's put up some defense, then upgrade the cards we just played. play a borrowed time should bring, i thought it would bring back right hand hand, but i guess it only goes from discard pile, not from draw pile. fair enough.
-
10:12
we can only play one skill per turn. oh my god, that's horrible. okay. well, it's not that horrible if you draw none skills. if you draw none skills, then it doesn't really matter that much at all. play the top card of the draw pile. wipe you out with one card. do as much damage as we can. we take four damage. you're still vulnerable, which is nice. one skill per oh, i played, uh... i played a skill. my bad, y'all.
-
10:46
you gotta go, a skill that actually makes it so we take as little damage as possible. we got you next turn. i don't see a way we make it through the first boss. the boss is the fish. that doesn't make me any more optimistic to be honest. i mean, defy is really good. squeeze does kind of work with what we got. we have what, two oasty attacks? so this will do 35 damage. maybe we build into it. maybe it's a build around, i don't know.
-
11:19
i don't have a good answer for you. no oste attacks. i do kind of feel like an ultimate defend could be sort of crazy. and then maybe, i don't know man, a dex potion. i'm just trying to figure this out just like you are, okay? and then rest again and go into the boss fight with no upgraded cards, but we have drain power. so some of our cards kind of get upgraded ambiently anyway. beckons are gonna be real annoying. well, just make the deck as good as possible.
-
12:03
it seems like the fight's gonna be pretty long. here is a good one, it puts two vulnerability on you. oste's getting a little bit larger, but the beckons are coming around, okay. well, this turn just is not good. the only thing i will say is it does allow us to bring back right hand hand quickly.
-
12:28
you're intangible here, but it does also cost one for four damage, which is suboptimal. to put it like that, not a great card in the whole scheme of things. okay, now this time, little right hand hand, little strike, little drain power, borrowed time, grave warden brings back right hand hand. that still felt like it didn't do nearly enough, man.
-
13:00
i'd really like, it seems to me like one of the ways we can sneak our way out of this is via unleash. yeah, i think i'm gonna accept taking six damage off of that. i really want, i wanted that exact situation to come to pass and we're actually taking 12 damage by the way, but i need you to stay alive so that unleash continues to do a bunch of damage. wait, wait, wait, okay, obviously you play this.
-
13:39
and the flex potion doesn't get you there. so don't go into the comments and go the flex... well, maybe... no, because it doesn't raise the amount of damage that comes off of it there. we're literally staying alive, or that it gets buffed for each... oste attack, i think. we're literally staying alive with one hp. all we have to do is hit you one time. i looked at my hand and i saw no attacks and i said, what? and it turns out there was an attack there. add replay to a card in your hand, it costs extra.
-
14:14
oste does damage. wait, so am i willing to lose strength and then just rely on the oste attacks? it does make your drain powers a little bit worse, but... or replay to a card in your hand, it costs an extra energy. i mean, this costing four, but going twice would be insane. i think we do that. we can find a way to make that work. pale's legion, pale's legion. or, i mean, relax is always kind of interesting, don't get me wrong.
-
14:55
if only we could take them both. or pales wing and we relic max. i'm sorry like it's the least sexy option. i love it. i love it. so many times i'm like oh i'm about to take a bunch of damage then i accidentally pop a block and take no damage and i go wait this is awesome. do we really want to replay anything here?
-
15:33
someone's gotta eat dirt. you still need to get hit three times, i acknowledge, but this basically means we're not taking damage. gain four energy, which would take us to four. transfigure would make this cost even more. you know what though? interesting play. transfigure on the defend, even though we can't play it, we could use it as pale's legion bait if the fight goes on much longer than i'd like it to.
-
16:00
you're doing 21 damage, that's what we like to see. we're putting up 21 block in a manner of speaking. squeeze essentially useless here. we take three damage, that's okay. we still got pales legion. 18 block, obviously we like it. you're about to get too strong. two attacks kills you. scary thought now. i'm starting to believe that this one actually has a better chance than i originally thought.
-
16:40
i know how to play this one. fear goes on you first. we're going to take a hit by the way. where are we? hear me out. oh, where's my, where's my fella? where's my fella? i thought we had a right hand hand that was going to come back and make me look like a genius by killing this guy where i use my last energy to kill that fella. that's my bad. okay. more, more good blocks to trigger pales legion. give me silent cards. they tend to be like block coded.
-
17:17
i mean some aoe damage would really hit the spot man plus it's upgraded we're not a big card drawer or discarder unfortunately whenever you play a card deal for damage to a random enemy wait, and it's might be playable. thanks to borrowed time, man that's interesting now. i will say i
-
17:49
getting like a trans figure on you and then drawing ten cards for two. is that even good? i don't think i got the energy base to be reliably doing anything with those cards even if we were to draw them now, do you you definitely don't trans figure production then it costs one gives you four energy, but you've only got three energy in hand if anything double up on a strike which is like
-
18:18
you know, not really that good. obviously. i think you probably just hit for 35 if i had to guess. now here's where things are gonna get interesting. what are you? you're stealing the card that i need. you're literally i'm like, where's this card? the card is in your hand, bro. i can get you to i need to hit you twice next turn to stop you from flying. i've literally already done that. there's one, there's two.
-
18:55
then we hit you again. i mean, i need borrowed time. i can't let you get away with borrowed time. i'm in search of lost borrowed time like marcel proust. that's a skip. that's a wisp. we need more draw though. we need energy is a solute is solved. it's a solved problem. we need more draw. this is big. how much you're doing 24 so you're getting stunned huge, huge, huge, huge. let's get an upgraded defy out there.
-
19:25
i really think like i'm really happy we took dagger spray to be honest. because i think dagger spray should have played right hand hand first, but i literally think that solves our aoe problem and our deck gets better the more we use it. ie, i actually think we do super well against bosses relative to how we do against
-
19:58
that was awesome. relative to how we do against basic enemies. i mean obviously it's going to be harder. we can do this right? we can't do this right? what about a skill potion? into reanimate and then you can never harm me ever again. order was all screwed up there. bosses will be harder like they have better stats but we scale better against bosses than we do against regular individuals i think.
-
20:29
what about graveblast to bring back an upgraded card? just to bring back any card, because we need access to stuff like borrowed time. i gotta see if there's like a healing item in here though. not really. power potion might do something for us and a weak potion might, i mean that's healing. it just like not getting hit is not taking as much damage. it's very similar to healing. power potion.
-
20:58
ethereal cards give you four block. first attack does more damage. we need that and then obviously we're kind of like in the business of hoping for... 28? taking no damage, okay. we're in the business of hoping for like transfigure in the dagger throw on this turn. it's literally what we got. or dagger spray, i should say.
-
21:31
and it's what we got and it's still not good enough. so let's weaken you, throw out a grave blast. we can't really do anything with the dagger spray. i think bring back a grave warden, at least you're getting nine block off it. take like 21 damage or something. first attack does more damage. you gotta pay the price. and then it wouldn't be the worst thing if you also paid the price.
-
22:06
we really only have one aoe attack, which is where things become a problem for us. we die if we play serpent form, so that's probably not the play. now this is the scary turn because we've got no pales legion. wisp gives you energy. squeeze gets a kill and borrowed time. squeeze gets a kill. you have to use it on the one doing the most damage. or this would do... the first attack does more damage.
-
22:56
you normally, you're gonna do seven, you're gonna do ten. which is enough to kill you. so we could wipe you, borrow time, kill you, kill you and still live. okay, wait, wait, wait. my boy's wicked smart. that would have been so funny if i just died like right as i said that. but now we just gotta do 25 damage to you which should be doable in theory. great blast. i actually don't know if it's doable. moreover, i think we could die which is crazy.
-
23:36
like do i really have to grave blast the defend back? i can do six and then six. that leaves you on 13. i'll have two energy left. this will do seven. oh my god, i think we literally get there. oh no, because these do four because i'm weakened. i'm going to pass away unless i bring back defend. because this, i know it's, wait why does this do 10? oh because weakness doesn't affect oste, but even still
-
24:12
that only does 10 plus 4, which is less than 15, which would kill us. we have to take this. that's crazy. i swear i think that's right. i think we puzzled something out. and then, i mean, it's just the best card we have. so we got really lucky there. i mean...
-
24:44
i think delay is probably a little better than dance macabre. we continue to never be able to upgrade a card which is tragic, but honestly given how fraught with danger this has been, i think we're kind of lucky to just be alive. maybe we get saved by some question marks on the way up cuz i don't really wanna fight any elites right now and like accelerate our own demise. at the k to your deck whenever you play a power deal eight damage to all enemies. brother, i think that's gotta happen.
-
25:19
and i'll not take any damage willfully right now. i recognize a ton of curses is also bad. all right, man, potion of binding to maybe keep us alive. let's accelerate it. let's accelerate it. let's try insane idea. transfigure on serpent form. so every time we play a card, it does eight damage to all enemies, which is i mean just the fella but still i discard piles empty.
-
25:58
you know what? look on the bright side, we got pael's legion still ready to go. just waiting for a single defend. i recognize we had squeeze there, but i made my choice. what do we got here? honestly, not like many days is at all. we go in on that. okay, wait, wait. transfigure serpent form on turn one is kind of op. please, you're dead. you're definitely dead. that went really well. now, we definitely can't rely on that happening every single time.
-
26:40
that was kind of crazy. i don't see a path in which we make it through this boss, man. kind of got to save this for a more productive turn. you obviously also have to save pales legion. wait, we got, it's not turn one. still, the only way you're gonna make it through this man is like something like that, even though this turn is gonna obviously be heinous.
-
27:19
we still have not used pale's legion huge, but we'll use it. still seems impossible to imagine a world in which we're not dead like at the end of this very turn. yeah, yeah fair enough.
-
27:40
kind of an awkward length for an episode, but i honestly there were some plays that were we kind of clutched up there were also some plays where we were just trying to survive but i don't know i didn't see a different line there to get out of it i'm not saying one didn't exist, but you gotta you gotta be using a scrying mirror. let's put it that way for now thanks for watching. i'll be back tomorrow with another episode if you enjoyed click the like button. i'm still great deal subscribe you wanna see more in the future later?
