slay the spire 2 y'all we're back and with the... i don't want to say you should have a high expectations but the two runs we did last week one win one loss that's pretty good for me on a10. also i beat a20 on the bike this week in slay the spire 1 which might actually work against me because this is not the same game but it's got me feeling like i'm coming into this with a little bit of momentum. and wouldn't you know it we're playing a character who
-
0:26
i mean they're a little momentum driven. at least if you can get some cards that discard and some cards that play when they get discarded and maybe some cards that when discarded draw cards that then play when discarded. you know what i'm talking about? random rare echoing slash. say it with me, a little bit of aoe early on. you could do a lot worse i think than a little bit of aoe early on especially when you get a setup like this where you can then play echo slash three times
-
0:57
wow. okay. okay, okay, okay. does it repeat? it repeats the effect. so it doesn't count as multiple attacks, but i still like finisher because i think shiv builds are just good. that is what i won a 20 with this week. and you're going to say, oh, it must be nice to not run into the timekeeper. i did run into the timekeeper. he changed his name. he was called the time eater. we just, the shifts were that good. did i have
-
1:28
shuriken, kunai, ornamental fan, invenom, and then the sneko relic that makes it apply extra poison every time poison is applied. maybe i did, maybe i didn't. you'll never know. that's between me and the peloton. it's a dramatic entrance because right now this seems like, i mean not to be a broken record, but it doesn't seem kind of seem like a momentum driven run. if we can get a lot of damage done
-
1:54
early on turn one and draw echoing slash like basic hallway fights might not be a concern for us at all. interesting. it's also got me thinking that chosen cheese might be the way forward for us if we choose. i can't play it like a fool. if i choose to, um, just want to make sure i'm killing you here. uh, to continue just prioritizing hallway fights, we might be able to get enough out of that to make it worthwhile.
-
2:26
versus the option. and look, would you look at that? just the exact opportunity to put my money where my mouth is. um... interesting. i'm trying to think... so we have an aoe driven boss fight. i mean, giving echoing slash more range seems fairly apropos for me. and then a dramatic entrance. it's a really annoying first fight, because i can do six, take you down to 18, this will not kill you.
-
2:57
i think the play is you just play the echoing slash block as much as you can and then hopefully kill you next turn. we do want to add more shibs to get some more play off the finisher though for sure. honestly, god is my witness. i think we do that right there. does echoing slash exhaust? thankfully, no. don't get me wrong. still taking more damage than i'd like to be taking, but we have a campfire. i think the hard choice is figuring out whether or not we want to
-
3:30
fight an elite before we fight the boss. sometimes you have no choice, but i mean, i think it could be an interesting play. discard your, discard two cards at two shivs in your hand. for some reason, i thought i said discard your whole hand. i was like, well, that's a, that's a heck of a nerf compared to what it used to be. let's be safe here and then consider whenever you enter a question mark, heal five. all right. in that case, i'm going to mix up the order instead of going this way, i'm going to go this way.
-
4:03
not getting much out of the cheese, i'll admit, but you know what? heal me for 21. we're fighting some enemies, what a crazy sound as well. i don't think we should be too perturbed by fighting enemies. and the reason i say that is, i mean, we really are at any given moment one echoing slash away from finishing this fight and we'll heal off of the chosen, well, we'll get one max hp off of the chosen cheese and we're healing afterwards anyway. like that was a given, man.
-
4:40
nightmare is always so interesting because i just, i, i in my head, i know that if you were to put me into an fmri machine and show me this card, negative parts of my brain would light up. but that doesn't make sense. because it gives you three copies of whatever card you want next turn, including a zero cost card or a one cost card like echoing slash that would like win you the fight. so i guess, you know what, let's, let's put our money where our mouth is. let's prove that we know this is actually good.
-
5:11
we love that. and then discarding two of these gives us two shivs. nightmare giving us three calculated gambles? i guess we should have just nightmaried some shivs to be honest with you. if we don't draw echoing slash, we'll be glad we hit you. it's only 50 50 basically. and you know what? we lost the 50 50. take three damage, not a big deal at all. this on the other hand, kind of a big deal. now would i rather hit you for 18? taking three damage is a joke.
-
5:48
that's money well spent to ensure that you're toast. i do feel like some vulnerability would go a long way. and then we have the cache to, dare i say, make nightmare cost 2 so it's not going to completely ruin a turn to play it. so a nightmare on turn 1 definitely feels like i should have used that for dramatic entrance last time. and then we could just play... i mean, we might want to pop a volm potion knowing what our next turn looks like.
-
6:25
i don't think we need the pop an energy potion yet. we could either save it or use it on the next turn and then just play dramatic entrance finisher. and then this should be a big turn bro. would have been a nice time for a finisher. i can't deny it. we're gonna hit you with two strikes, three dramatic entrances and an echoing slash that kills you. okay.
-
6:51
i'm gonna pass on this, but bag of prep is a crazy relic. i always like to get bag of prep, especially because we're so front loaded right now. i will settle for taking two damage to get out in front of this guy, who's almost like the opposite of that boat that you fight on act 1, where he looks like he shouldn't be that challenging but then ruins your life. this guy's the opposite. this guy looks like he shouldn't be that challenging but then ruins your life. did i do it the opposite? the boat looks like it should be challenging but then is inert.
-
7:24
and this guy looks like he shouldn't be that bad, but then he does a ton of damage to you. we're not drawing anything too noteworthy next turn, but i just, i can't get to the kill. like i can add two shivs, that's eight damage. yeah, i can get to the kill. turns out i can easily get to the kill. give me the shivs. we have lots of things that pay out from shivs, even though we haven't really gotten the shiv synergies to work yet. infinite blades is like a, we can wait on it. i'm going to go dramatic entrance just because it's a card we guarantee we play early every single time.
-
8:04
we do want to see a nightmare. there is a part of me that thinks, wouldn't you rather just have an echoing slash though? like three echoing slashes next turn could go crazy, man. neutralize you. play a dramatic. i mean it's hard to... it's hard to ignore 45 damage for free next turn. i think i got a nightmare, the dramatic. and then i still play the dramatic, of course. take the energy potion.
-
8:40
knowing you're going to die next turn. spend all of your energy doing as much damage as you can to the boss. and i'm feeling pretty good about the way this looks right now, because obviously that's going to be a serious problem for the enemies to deal with. and now you've got some debuffs on top of you as well. i mean, you've lost 150 hp in two turns. now, if i may, our build is very front loaded.
-
9:18
we don't really have any scaling. we have like in some consistent damage. we don't really have a ton of scaling. that'll be something that we'll want to work on if possible. but it's hard to argue with that. that was like really, really clean man.
-
9:34
a second nightmare, i mean these are all interesting. i hesitate on fan of knives even though i'm probably going to take it just because we're not quite a shiv deck but that does a lot to make us a shiv deck and also enables echoing slash to kill enemies easier because the shivs are whittling all enemies down at like a steady pace. but i was thinking if we could get to four energy, i mean a second nightmare on a single turn could even do something but let's diversify a little bit.
-
10:07
i think it's got to be very hot cocoa. that's an awfully hot cocoa pot. then nightmare is like a free play if you draw it early, which we did. so you're definitely going to nightmare dramatic. fan of knives gives us four shivs right off the bat. so we're obviously going to play that.
-
10:25
and then we still have tons of energy to work with bro. okay wait, this does seem like the sort of thing where i could like dominate hallway fights and then the wrong elite could really screw me up or not to mention aeon glass like that punishes you every time you play a card but i mean you got to play cards anyway that's how you that's how you exert your will in slade the spire it's not like i'm gonna get like one card that's like kill the boss
-
10:52
footwork i really like and you know what we're gonna need some defense so i'm gonna i'm gonna go for it. i feel like this shop could be mighty useful for us as well. i mean we're getting really lucky if i may. getting a bunch of dramatic entrances for free is mighty nice. i think you just say you know thank you for what you've given me on this turn. we'll do 23 damage to you and set up for an awesome turn next turn. and you got a kill with an echoing slash just for the just for swag.
-
11:26
but now at this point with 24 cards i want to be careful about what i add because uh i mean we're we're really looking pretty slick man. another finisher is not i mean fasten is good stuff. i do i think sling of courage makes me feel more confident fighting elites. i don't know if we need a second one which makes me feel like we could really increase our our power level if we just prioritize fighting elites on this floor because we're getting a bunch of relics out of it.
-
12:00
i mean, am i insane if i put sharp 2 instead of swift 2? just because like, i mean we obviously can increase the damage on echoing slash and you can see the combos turning into like a slot machine balatro style in your head but dramatic gets copied more often. i almost feel like it's one of those times you don't want to outthink yourself because i almost always go for swift 2 just because drawing two cards seems to be like the
-
12:32
by far the best option, the most powerful option. i think you're all dead man. holy cow. she's louise should have been using my potions a little bit more. honestly feel like with a footwork deflect might not be too bad. now you're not removing the footwork. you can remove a single defend. i'd much rather it be a strike but i'm not willing to go to bat for that forever.
-
13:02
now this is interesting man, because of course i mean it's a great term for a flex potion. maybe you just don't use them in conjunction with one another and we might take some damage here but we're gonna, the other thing is we might not. because this finisher is gonna be crazy. you're already dead, i can tell you that. but let's see how much we can get out of it. well worth the potion i think even though we may not have needed it.
-
13:27
four poison to all enemies, good because it gets rid of artifact. even if we're not a poison build, i'm not gonna be disappointed. let's take a backflip. i probably overrated it, but maybe i'm only saying that because it's at the common. little late for a molten egg, but hard to be too cheesed off by it. you know, honestly, that's worth it in this house. adding a card gives you 15 gold, distilled chaos pretty good.
-
13:59
i like a dodge and roll with an upgraded footwork in the deck. and i feel like we're cooking something up here, man. we are cooking something up. let's get one more shiv out of phantom knives. we get one more elite. give the sling of courage. give two strength for two random relic. i would happily give you 100 gold for a random relic. upgraded attacks deal more damage. let's start with the elite. now, you are a real piece of work, man.
-
14:33
skills make you stronger. we have so much energy, we gotta play some obviously. let's try distilled chaos too. obviously this is gonna make you like really strong. but, extra shivs, powers up finisher. hit you for 64, pretty solid. this takes 5 damage away, i can live with that. taking 2, not a big deal at all. i'd really like to kill you on this turn. ah, that's not gonna happen. but,
-
15:21
taking three against this elite doesn't bother me at all. now it's gonna happen. huge. parrying shield, i don't know. i do think another leading strike makes a lot of sense. we have a 27 card deck, but we do have some redraws. i've noticed we haven't gotten nightmare on the first turn in a little while. and that's got me feeling like we could have kept the deck a little leaner. but you know what? it is what it is.
-
15:56
you're still, i mean you got hit for almost 100 on the first turn. there's some positives there. 3 deflects, a fan of knives that feels like it's going to do some good work for us. here's a question i should know the answer to. does gremlin horn exist in slay the spire 2 or is gremlin horn a slay the spire 1 joint? and who's our boss? our boss is the insatiable. that's actually pretty bad. to be frank, that seems pretty bad.
-
16:34
glischette's is interesting, right? like, does feel like we would get lots of hits off of it. nah, let's take another expose just so that we can... we need to do a lot of damage really quickly. and one of the ways that we... well, fairly quickly. one of the ways that we can do that is keeping you vulnerable as long as possible, i think. so this is a great turn for us. a nightmare into a dramatic. i would happily calculate a gamble.
-
17:12
just sucks because you don't want to draw like a finisher. you should have drawn first, but like i mean what can i say? i'm not always that good at the game. i'm always doing some heavy lifting in that sentence. but i'd rather have five shivs or do 18 damage. i guess i would rather have both because we have finisher. would have been nice to have exposed out there by now, but it's really hard to ignore 48 damage.
-
17:41
so just don't get eaten. that's a big part of what i would describe as success. probably a great turn to use a block potion. are we? i was gonna say we must be drawing a frantic escape. i was hoping so. we got our powers out. i still feel pretty good. i mean if we get eaten it's over but i still feel pretty good. definitely like that. like this. i think just to be on the safe side you want to play two frantically man.
-
18:20
more fun to play a finisher than a strike even if they do the same amount of damage. don't hate me because i'm right. same exact situation. guarantee your own survival. this does not guarantee our own survival, but we are alive. okay, like i said, we got ourselves in trouble with this boss, but i think like if we had gone up against the crab, we would have beaten the crab in like six seconds and you would have been like, wow, this is the greatest run i've ever seen. but instead, look at you. now you're doubting us.
-
18:53
now you're doubting us because of the fact that we didn't have the greatest boss fight of all time just because we got mismatched. well get ready buddy, get ready for your confidence to get further eroded because there's a two thirds chance that we run into the aeon glass, a boss that i've never beaten much less on a10. at least we get to go up against the test subject first. every four cards draw a card is really good. stun the enemy!
-
19:23
stun the enemy seems mighty nice, especially with a nightmare. i just don't know how i'd get the energy to play it. i mean, this is much more like shiv deck coded. and even the crossbow can be awesome, man. because you can also... i don't know what would happen if you nightmar ed a card that's free to play this turn. you might get three cards that are not free to play on the next turn or you might get three cards that cost zero. i don't know. i'm gonna take the kind of no must no fuss option. i really feel like this is one where you gotta double down. like, if you think you have a chance to win,
-
19:55
the only way to really lock it in, let's do this way, is to fight as many elites as possible because we have good advantages against elites. hopefully pick up something that solves the test subject and the aeon glass. although i do think we could probably beat the test subject. the aeon glass is more of a... it's an unknown unknown for me right now.
-
20:20
but we have like the deck is decking man. i don't think anybody would dispute the fact that the deck is decking, especially against these basic and these like, i mean, this is a joke and the cheese is actually i think it's proving its metal on this specific type of run. start of your third turn gain a bunch of energy actually think that would be really nice for us. you never know when you're gonna draw nightmare fan of knives etc etc.
-
20:55
two fewer cards at the start of each combat, raise max hp by 20. i would much rather lose 15 and upgrade two randoms. two strikes on act 3 is a slap in the face. i don't know what else i could say about it except to say it's a slap in the face. but what's done is done, bro. and then four cards equals draw. so we draw off our next card. it drew an attack and we're two away from drawing again. and that's actually like the ideal card to draw when you have zero energy. so i'm not feeling bad about that one at all.
-
21:31
huge. we passed. 29 cards. i know what cards i want to draw early. powers hurt us. literally, literally not even a problem. because we don't... it's a rare build where this is the case. we have no reason to really play our powers, man. i'll tell you, i'm gonna play this for like low value. huge. huge play. and then we set up our big nightmare turn next turn anyway, where you probably die, if i had to guess.
-
22:12
it's really hard to live through that. we gotta give the globehead some sympathy for that one. the dream i think with hand trick in a shift deck is putting sly on a skill that draws cards so that when you discard everything with storm of steel, you don't just have shifts. because the shifts might give you more energy, they'll give you more draw, etc. you want to have more cards to get like a playoff.
-
22:43
a payoff, i should say from that. but i really think we got a nice, like, elegant situation here that i don't want to mess with. love seeing all these rares, man. i think next turn is the flex turn. so you definitely nightmare dramatic. and then maybe deflect. i'm trying to see if we draw voln first. we didn't. so now i feel like we can play dramatic. and maybe we want to throw out one more attack as well.
-
23:14
leading strike will help us get to one more draw. you never know what you get out of it. another defend. i'm okay with this. next turn's a big turn. we'll probably pop the flex potion. we'll definitely pop the flex potion, because we got this. we drew an attack. three of these. two of these. we draw fan of knives. we have to play finisher, but this is actually good because we can dump two cards we couldn't play.
-
23:50
and then kill you. not a problem, man. nunchuck is really good for us as well, and i think this is a pass. i'm feeling so analytical right now. petrified toad? sure, man, why not? it helps us with our burst damage on turn one, so i'm not gonna be upset about that. i gotta feel like this is looking mighty nice right here. 32 damage. this will do 24.
-
24:27
so that gets two hits done on you. we drew phantom knives with nunchuck on the same turn, or the same play i should say, which is crazy. see, the silent doesn't just have to turtle up. the silent can do some damage too. we don't necessarily discard a lot. i love well laid plans, it's just we got such a, like a, we got a tight deck right now, man. it's hard to mess with it. okay, well, it's gonna be an early dramatic.
-
25:01
and then you think about what you like to play. anything that gets you to draw and energy, i.e. shivs is mighty nice. and then honestly, i look at the rest of my hand and i say, great for defense, but who cares? run it back. finisher already hits for 40, which means this and a finisher kills you with a potion, i should say. so wouldn't we rather play, we'd rather play one more attack, maybe on you. draw and expose, which we definitely are gonna wanna use.
-
25:42
and then, two away from draw. just give me the shivs for now. i know it's a little crazy. and then throw one of these at you and then this gets to play for two. this draws a card which is an expose. you couldn't get any luckier than that. that's so insane that every draw just worked out like so beautifully for us there. mummified hand, always nice man.
-
26:13
i think i'd rather have explosive amp fuel. i'm not upset about that. cloak and dagger really feeds off of like a nunchuck and stuff like that. so i'm gonna go ahead. i'm gonna rest. we don't have a pantograph or something. and then we'll try to fight this last elite and see how it goes. it's been good so far, man. okay, the exposed goes crazy there. one away from drawing. might as well toss that at you. discard two defends. play two shives, one away from drawing.
-
26:46
don't play dramatic entrance yet, because that's exactly why. because you might draw a nightmare and the edge case actually ended up working out beautifully. then let's just get five shivs, which is again more draw and also more energy, which gets us cards that get us closer to draw and closer to energy. and then a storm of steel, which is going to give us one draw and get us closer to energy. and this guy is normally pretty annoying. i guess he's pretty much toast anyway.
-
27:17
i guess i'm trying to think of what the elites could be. maybe we'd rather have a single higher damage potion. it's not a lot, but i think it was worth it. okay, first attack is a doozy here, energy and draw. then let's just work towards our draw cuz obviously we wanna draw a nightmare. we got a ways to go, two more cards for draw. didn't get a nightmare.
-
27:56
echoing slash. okay, so now we realize we're not gonna get the nightmare combo, but that's okay. two cards gives us draw. so sorry, echoing slash, we're gonna get the draw and it gave us a card we can't play. that's the first time that that has worked out not basically exactly the perfect way for us. so i'm not gonna be upset at all. that turn also not that amazing, but i mean, we've taken eight damage. that's really not...
-
28:30
i shouldn't have gotten rid of the ship there obviously, but that's really nothing to cry about. let's put it that way. i think we'd rather storm of steel and then we just get like lots of chances to draw better attacks. one chance to draw better attacks and then take a bunch of damage. whatever, we rest before the boss. small price to pay for war paint. you know what? let's do it man. you never know.
-
29:04
okay, um, i really think this is going to be a rude awakening. i think we had a beautiful run and now it's going to get really tough. not to say we're cooked but i think it's going to get really tough. let's neutralize first. we want to be very careful about your strength obviously but we need the triple dramatic entrance. we may actually not need it but i gotta do some mathematics. okay, fan of knives for two gets us
-
29:38
draw and energy, not to mention the damage from it. and then two more attacks, it's just one away. obviously you have gained strength. i'm really, i'm just trying to get you into a position and it's not going to happen, but a position where the potion shaped rock would have killed you. this is not as bad as it looks because we'll just save our dramatic entrances. and i mean, honestly,
-
30:16
we might be happy to draw them in the future...maybe? i lost confidence midway through saying it. umm...two away from draw. we want to draw something that discards. okay, but we can't put sly on a skill in our hand, obviously. unless we want to put it on calculated gamble, but it's...
-
30:43
not really that productive. this is what i meant when i said we might be in trouble, man. do we really think, yeah, 45 damage is probably better than getting rid of our hand and then drawing one card. no reason to play the calculated gamble though. now, by the way, it could have been better, but i think you don't want to play exposed because you need another. well, you'd like to have a source of vuln on the next phase as well if possible.
-
31:15
extremely unlikely to kill you here, although that helps a lot. i can kill you. i was hoping that, i don't know, get something that caused zero and did damage like a neutralize, but we can use the potion. 33 damage, you're intangible this turn. you're intangible. i still think, even though we're about to waste the nunchuck energy, no, no, no, i was gonna say i think we shell out to try to get as much block as possible, but the odds of that paying out better on that turn than this turn are zero.
-
31:57
so let's dramatic entrance. there's energy neutralizes draw. sure man hand trick on a dodge and roll might actually be something. alyssa is not the best turn you're ever going to see. and i think you reasonably could guess we're fairly unlikely to beat the to beat the aon glass if we even managed to make it through the test subject, which i think is also really unlikely to be honest with you.
-
32:38
but we'll try, man. you have my word that we will try. still no discards. well, i'm not gonna do the math. i'm going to just play all my blocks. and then if we die, we're not gonna die. that turn, at least. we should be able to get ourselves to some draw. we're still not going to die. and then on this turn, we're still not going to die, which at this point now feels like
-
33:15
to an extent they're kind of trolling me. and now i'm realizing where everything went wrong. why am i still drawing so many strikes and basic defense at this stage of my life? it seems like that shouldn't be what's happening right now, but we are dead. but you know what, can i say, if you put yourself on the pedestal and you say only an 8 10 victory is a success, you're going to be disappointed. that's not true sports fan thinking. you know, i just went through a season as a canucks fan. we came dead last in the league, lost the draft lottery and picked the coach's son third. and i'm saying, you know what?
-
33:52
that was a success for us. you gotta adjust your expectations. i had a lot of fun on that run until i died to the test subject. it was time well spent. for now, i hope you enjoyed it as well. click the like button if you did. subscribe if you want to see more and i'll see you next time. later!
